The cost of tuition fees in the UK varies depending on the type of institution you go to and the course you apply for. Tuition fee rises are approx. 3-5% p.a. on average in line with the cost of inflation.
Below is a rough guide to current tuition fees for 2010 entry:
Private Schooling/A-levels from approx. £5,000 - £25,000 plus p.a.
Further Education Coursesfrom approx. £4,000 - £7,000 plus p.a.
Foundation Diploma in Art and Designfrom approx £6,000 plus p.a.
Undergraduate degree tuition fees:
Band A - Most courses in arts/humanities £9,000 - £12,000 p.a.
Band B -Most science/laboratory/paramedical courses £10,000 - £15,000 p.a.
Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science
Up to £15,000 plus for each pre-clinical year (x2)
Up to £25,000 plus for each clincial year (x3)
Some universities charge the same fee for all five years. This can be in excess of £20,000 p.a.
Oxford and Cambridge
Tuition fees as in Band A or B and above plus
further £3,000 -£4,000 plus p.a. college fee
Postgraduate degrees
Tuition fees as in Band A or B above
MBA programmes can cost more a lot more
Living expenses vary depending on geographical location, type of accommodation, catering, etc. You should budget for approx. £7,000 - £8,000 p.a. for living expenses. (London will cost considerably more).
All fees quoted are for full fee paying international students. If you are an EU citizen you need to have lived in the EEA (European Economic Area) for three years prior to the commencement of your studies in order to qualify for home fee status. You should not have been in full-time education for any of this three year period. Home fees will be charged at £3,290 per annum for 2010 entry. If you feel you have not fulfilled the three year rule for home fees, but have a special case nevertheless, you should contact the university you wish to apply to for a fee assessment.
